Every single resource I have found for homeschooling is Christian based. We are not a christian family.
I cant join a support group in my area cause, once again, they are ALL christian.
what is a pagan mother with a bi-polar child supposed to do?

Re: new to home schooling, problem
Fri, July 30, 2004 - 2:12 PMRead Grace Llewellyn (sp?). The titles "Guerrilla Learning" and "The Teenage Libration Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education" come to mind.
I think Llewellyn has a web site, and she's almost certain to reference other texts there. And if not there, then in her books.

Mon, December 6, 2004 - 5:05 AMI suggest you check out Calvert curriculum. They're secular and have been doing it for more than 100 years. Or email me, and I can give you some specific links to other stuff. -

A wonderful resource for developing cirriculum, that is very clear about christian and non-christian choices for each area.

Re: new to home schooling, problem
Tue, January 18, 2005 - 12:08 PMHow are ya, I am a homeschooler too, and a reverend. But not to be confused I an ordained minister, who also can't teach my kids based on the bible, anybody's bible. What I have been doing is letting the kids pick a topic, anything they want to know more about, and thats exactly what I ask them, and we will sit down, pop in the encarta disc and go to town. Here in tucson, if anyone cares, is a place called "World Care" and at this warehouse you can purchase school books for $1 each, $5 for the treachers addition. Great way to build up the educational library. I don't work for them or anything, just a great way to get books cheap. There is a web site called "freeworksheets.com" also. Pretty much all the homework regular teachers would give, but you can pick what ever you want. If you want to talk about NON- religious homeschooling, join the "order-of-universal-truth" tribe, I set it up just the other day....

Re: new to home schooling, problem
Sun, January 30, 2005 - 8:24 PMThere is a homeschool group that meets in Farmers Branch called Excel. They meet in a Methodist Church but they are not Christian based. They have all religions and non-religions in it. The name of the church is Chapel Hill Methodist. I am not sure how to get in touch with the HS group. I can put you in touch with the church sec'y though and she should be able to help you. -

Re: new to home schooling, problem
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 3:37 AMThis is unhelpful but...
WHERE ARE YOU, and why? Come to San Jose, California. Can you say diversity.
I belong to 4 homeschooling groups, and have heard no mention of anyone's religion. There are about 6 Christian groups in this area as well. I know a few families are pagan, because I knew them outside of the group. I have also found a lot of internet info, and curriculums. I wonder if almost everyone in your area is Christian, maybe that's adding to your childs mental imbalances as well. It's hard to become balanced in a non diverse and accepting environment. Good for you to at least get the child out of the schools. Often they push a religious curriculum in heavily dominated areas, even though it's unlawful, who's going to complain?
Good luck, -Shereen
