Hi - So happy to find this tribe... I'm looking for alternative schooling for my 12 yr old son. Public school is just not for him and he has little interest in it, which worries me tremendously since he's headed into Jr. High.
Has anyone had any experience with Global Village School?globalvillageschool.org/index.html
I live on the Central Coast in CA and was referred their direction by another program called the Wilderness Center which, sounds really interesting as well. I really know nothing about alternative schooling but know there has to be something out there for my son.
Any advice/help is much appreciated! Is there anyone here from Central Cali?

I haven't heard of that particular school, but it does look interesting. Check out hsc.org.. it is a great state organization and there are lots of resources. If you are near Sacramento HSC has a wonderful conference coming up in a few weeks. info is on the site. Also, there is a nice yahoo group associated with this group.

My son is 21.. always homeschooled.. now an EMT.. working towards paramedic/fire
daughter is 14 just got back from a trip to New Zealand/Australia with a student program.. they both always homeschooled/unschooled.

Tue, August 14, 2007 - 7:41 AMI am from the central coast and there are soo many great programs. Alternative family education in santa cruz... or ocean alternative or I use ocean grove where you get a stipen of money to spend...this year I get $1800. They are all online. check it out and good luck.
Oh and heddi at the resource center of santa cruz is a great resource of info and educational stuff!!
