Has anyone else had this problem? I have a 21/2 yr old daughter and was planning on keeping her out of the public school system. I have been working the unschooling/home schooling rack, but now she has been coming up to me and saying she wants to go to school, and seems really sad about it like she knows she won't get to... I have never said she COULDN'T go, but I'm not sure where she's picked this up. Any ideas or pointers as to how I should handle this? I usually just tell her she isn't old enough yet, but that seems to just make her more upset. She thinks shes smart enough to be there I think.

Re: 2yr old wants to go to school...
Fri, July 8, 2005 - 8:46 PMPerhaps she's just desiring to socialize? I think preschool is something to consider if it's a cooperative, non-teaching, play-based, no potty training necessary kind of vibe...otherwise, perhaps arranging a home-school cooperative where she can take 'classes' with other moms or dads and other kids around her? -

Mon, September 12, 2005 - 6:19 PMwe attend a waldorf parent-tot drop in, that is inspiring. we do handicrafts, storytelling, singing, playing with natural toys. i like it, so do the kids.

Re: 2yr old wants to go to school...
Mon, September 12, 2005 - 6:36 PMI have one that's homeschooled (he tried "regular" school first) and 2 in school...my daughter esp. seems to thrive on the social aspect of school and is learning as well.
In your place, I'd try a preschool, or even just getting out with her more like the home school co-ops, community gym 'classes', or connecting with other stay-at-home moms. (at 2, learning is to be play-based). See if that satisfies her.
